In
2004 a challenge was issued to our church, Copperfield Church, Houston,
TX: "Be Different to
Make a Difference!" We took
that seriously and prayed for God to reveal what that would look like
in our lives. Wow! We never imagined what He had in store
for us! Armed with that challenge, The
SPA Girls were
born!
Taking
things we already loved to do we had the idea to
show gals how to make spa treatments out of everyday household items
while memorizing Scripture!
The "SPA" in spa girls stands for Spriritual,
Practical
and Amusing
Ways to Live the Godly Life! (Think Lucy and Ethel learn the
Bible)
Our
ministry verse is Acts 17:28: "In Him we live and move and have our
being." As a woman in today's world that about sums it up doesn't
it?
To
date, we have had the honor to speak in over 250 churches across the
United States, made a few TV appearances, and have been on a few
Christian Womens' cruises!
If
you would like to see some referrals from other events, check out The Buzz tab on our
website.
Our
mission statement is simple:
For
women to grasp the reality that true beauty and self worth can
only be attained through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
and to practically and joyfully apply the Word of God and its
life-changing principles to the lives of their children, family and
friends so that the legacy of faith in Christ continues.
Although we use humor as the medium to get our message across, our
passion is serious. Our desire is for women to understand that God's
Word is living, real and
life changing and that
speaking these words of life over their children, family and friends is
the most loving and powerful legacy they could ever leave.
(the one
with the short hair!)
Melissa grew up in a loving Christian family, yet as a teen suffered a
life-threatening eating disorder that has lasted for over 30 years and
nearly took her life. Her battle for a positive self-image continues to
be a work in progress, and she has a passion for helping women and
teens with their body image. She has spoken at countless women's events
with humor and honesty. She admits that there is no magic diet pill,
but relies on consistent exercise, portion control, and time with the
Lord to help her stay healthy and strong - on the inside and out!
After a 12 year marriage
ended in divorce, Melissa was left to support her two young daughters,
ages 3 and 5 at the time. She reached a crossroads and had to make the
decision to "move forward" and show her daughters
how they could be strong women in the Lord.
Now, as a member of
Copperfield Churchs' Arts Team (she
sings, plays
flute in the church band, is on the worship planning team and plays the
bass guitar), Melissa is able to share her joy and
zest for life with others.
She and her husband have a
Brady Bunch
blended family (four children and three dachshunds)... but, where's
Alice???? She is an encourager, a
motivator, and speaks from the heart. She truly has a passion to help
women see that they are "fearfully and wonderfully made..." Her story
will inspire you to be all that God wants you to be and never give up.
She will help you see that God does give you a "future and hope for
your life..." and that He can restore to you the "wasted years..."
Remember - with God, we always get a "do-over" His mercies are new
every morning!

Lisa also
grew up in a
strong Christian home. She was the valedictorian of her high school and
married at a young age (which these days, with a 19 year old daughter,
she does NOT advocate). Lisa helped put her husband Steve through
college, and then it was her turn as she worked a job, went to school
and earned her CPA. Long ago they made the decision to become
debt-free. She is a testimony to the Lord's faithfulness and
provision.
A few years back, Lisa
suffered several long and debilitating cycles of clinical depression.
(A subject not widely discussed in Christian circles) Instead
of being a story of despair, her story is one of hope, perseverance and
inspiration to those who also share this silent and sometimes crippling
emotion.... she will show you how to "arm" yourself when these "winter"
seasons come physically, emotionally and spiritually. Lisa and
her husband Steve have two children (a daughter in college and a son in
high school).
Lisa is an avid
"blogger" and she has a gift for
making others around her feel accepted and comfortable. Her house truly
is a home. She can sew anything and
creates works of art out of thrift
store finds. You will be amazed to see what she can create from what
others call junk!
In 2009, the family moved
back to their hometown of Zavalla, TX in order to be near their
mothers, slow down the pace of their life, and most importantly provide
a more intimate learning environment for their son who has had to
overcome many challenges. As God led
them to make this drastic and life changing decision, they are
beginning to reap the rewards of being obedient to God's Word and
leadership.
If that weren't enough,
she has been blessed with the gift of
hospitality. Her zeal for life is contagious and you will enjoy her
quick wit and funny stories about life! Wherever Lisa goes, the party
is sure to follow!
